Concretely, how does hair coloring work?

To begin with, let's see what the structure of hair is. The hair fiber consists of keratin and consists of three concentric layers:

• The outer layer called the cuticle is made of transparent scales;
• The middle layer is called cortex;
• Finally, the deepest layer is called the marrow (or medullary canal).

Hair coloring for men is a chemical process that will open the scales of the cuticle and deposit dyes at different levels of the hair. Depending on the depth of the action, you will have a coloring that will last more or less long, or even permanently.

The different types of coloring for men?

There are two: a harmless method of "temporary staining" and a more invasive method, the famous "permanent staining".

Temporary coloring

On the other hand, the pigmentation will fade in a few shampoos and will only partially cover your white hair.

Permanent coloring

This is a much more aggressive process in terms of hair dyes but, in return, you will get a definitive coloring that will cover your white "intruders" or radically change the color of your fleece.

Ammonia will spread the scales of the cuticle to allow pigments to impregnate the heart of the hair fiber. Over time, you will not experience any disgorging and you will just have to color the roots only according to the speed of growth of your hair.

This method is weakening your hair fiber. It will therefore be necessary to regularly apply appropriate care to preserve a certain shine and prevent it from becoming rough and brittle.

How to dye your hair perfectly?

At the hairdresser

The first solution is to go to your hairdresser. You will be able to benefit from his advice and expertise and you will be sure to obtain a perfect result but which has, inevitably, a cost, this is the price to pay!

At home

However, if you have an enterprising mind, why not try doing it yourself? The ideal is to be organized, to carefully prepare the operation to have everything on hand, the process could even amuse you.

The benefits of doing it yourself are not negligible. It is more economical and the products currently on the market benefit from the contribution of many patented innovations. This makes these products concentrates of technologies specially adapted to the specificities of hair coloring for men.

A few days before, take the time to put 1 or 2 drops of coloring agent behind your ear to make sure you are not allergic. This is an essential step, regardless of the cosmetic product you are testing.

On D-Day, bring a T-shirt that we do not care about and a pair of plastic gloves to avoid getting dirty. 

Then it's a breeze. Scrupulously follow the instructions recommended on the box of the product. Prefer packaging that facilitates application such as a foam in the case of temporary coloring.

Respect the exposure times to the letter and remember to rinse long and abundantly with clear water.

As time passes, you will need to maintain your coloring and your hair by applying appropriate care and adopting a shampoo that avoids disgorging.
