You should simply listen to your body, in particular its energy needs, before focusing on your weight," explains micro-nutritionist Valérie Espinasse.


Should you opt for a salty or sweet breakfast to lose weight?

When you want to lose weight, the aim is to start the day with a full stomach to avoid getting hungry and snacking before lunch. For this, it is advisable to eat salty food in the morning, according to the micro-nutritionist. "To lose weight, I advise you to opt for a salty breakfast because it will fill you up better and your overall calorie intake will be lower. As a result, we will be less hungry and less likely to want to snack," says Valérie Espinasse.

On the other hand, eating sweet foods at breakfast makes you hungry more quickly because it increases the level of sugar in your blood and gives the impression that you are full, whereas this level will drop very quickly. Conclusion: eating sweet foods in the morning encourages the consumption of sweeter products at lunchtime and during the rest of the day. The reason is simple: "sugar calls for sugar". If you want to lose weight, you should forget about cereals, white bread, fruit juices, and many other foods with a high glycemic index.


What is the ideal breakfast for slimming?

According to Valérie Espinasse, the ideal breakfast should include

A grain product: a slice of dark bread (rye or Viking bread), which is more satiating than white bread

Saturated fat: a crushed avocado

A portion of protein: ham, salmon, or eggs

If you want to lose weight, are a fan of sweet breakfasts, and want to eat sweet foods in the morning at all costs, you should choose foods with a low glycaemic index. The micro-nutritionist recommends eating fresh fruit or stewed fruit rather than jam or adding almond puree to yoghurt rather than sugar. She also advises choosing grapefruit juice over orange juice. In short, the aim is to reduce the glycaemic load to avoid feeling hungry a few hours after eating.


Weight loss: which drinks should you choose for breakfast?

Whether or not you eat in the morning, it is necessary to hydrate yourself after a good night's sleep. "As far as drinks are concerned, you can drink whatever you like at breakfast, but it all depends on what you add to it. It is preferable to drink tea or coffee without sugar, herbal tea, infused water, or water with lemon if you want to lose weight," says Valérie Espinasse.
