There are more than 2000 species of fleas in the world, most of them infect pets such as dogs and cats. Fleas in pets grow quickly and increase in number, and it is interesting to know that each flea lays 50 eggs a day.

Dog and cat fleas can spread to humans very quickly and can transmit bacterial infections. In this article, we bring you 10 natural and home remedies to get rid of fleas in dogs and cats.

How to treat fleas in dogs, puppies, and cats

1. Flea spray rosemary

Rosemary contains very powerful ingredients that repel fleas due to its strong scent, plus it can help treat flea bites. If you want to get rid of pet fleas forever, we suggest using an anti-flea spray.

Pour two cups of fresh rosemary leaves into a bowl containing one liter of water and let it boil for 30 minutes, then remove it from the stove and cook it. Mix the resulting solution with 4.5 liters of warm water and spray it on dogs and cats or in the air.

2. Anti-flea combs

Combing pet hair is one of the best and most effective ways to get rid of fleas, and it is best to use combs whose teeth are not too far apart so that you can easily penetrate the hair side-to-side.

Pour into a bucket of warm water and dog or cat shampoo and stir until it's foamy, dip the comb in the solution and rub it gently on the head, neck, shoulders, stomach, and tail of your pet. To get rid of fleas and eggs, pull the comb in the direction the hair grows.

Repeat this procedure 2 to 3 times to remove all contaminants, then pour the remaining solution into the sewer to remove fleas into it.

3. Anti-flea dog collar

One of the best ways to treat fleas in dogs is to use flea collars. If you do not have access to flea collars, you can take a regular collar and pour a drop of tea tree oil on it and place it on the dog's neck.

Tea tree oil kills dog fleas and ticks due to its chemical formula. Don't forget that tea tree oil is only used for dogs and topically, if this oil gets into the pet's water and food, it will cause poisoning.

Warning: Tea tree oil can cause severe poisoning and death to cats.

4. Peppermint anti-flea spray

Keeping mint at home is a repellant for household insects, including fleas, due to their pungent smell.
Topical use of peppermint spray is beneficial for killing germs, keeping insects away, and treating skin diseases in dogs and humans.

Mix one cup of fresh or dried mint leaves with one liter of boiling water and leave for 3-4 minutes, then remove from heat and drain. Leave it for an hour to cool down, then spray it on the dog's body and in the space to kill fleas.

Warning: This solution is highly toxic to cats and can cause severe poisoning and diarrhea.

You can use peppermint in different forms, but do not forget that peppermint oil is very toxic and dangerous for cats.

5. Lemon and citrus spray

Using lemon and citrus sprays is one of the most effective natural ways to get rid of fleas in pets. The citrus spray contains a substance called de limonene, which helps treat dog and cat fleas.

Take 3 large lemons and wrap them, then add this lemon to 1 liter of boiling water and let it boil in water for 30 minutes. Remove from heat and leave for 8 hours at room temperature, pass through a colander and spray it on the hair of dogs and cats in the vacuum or in the open air.

6. Vinegar spray for cleaning cats

Vinegar has been used for centuries as a powerful antiseptic solution. Vinegar is one of the best natural and home remedies for treating fleas in dogs and cats.

In a spray bottle, mix 1/4 white vinegar with 3/4 water and stir well, spray this solution on dog and cat hair, and leave for 1 to 3 hours, then clean with water.

Repeat this procedure 2-3 times a week to get results quickly.

7. Sprinkle salt on the place where the cat or dog sleeps

Using salt is an easy and cheap way to get rid of fleas in dogs and cats. Salt dries out the flea’s body by changing the pH and oxygen in the environment, causing fleas to dry out and die. In addition, salt destroys flea eggs and prevents them from growing.

Spray salt on your dog or cat's sleeping area daily for 2-3 hours and then clean it. In addition, wash your dog and cat daily with a solution of water and salt.

8. Apply the soapy water solution around the room

Soap and water solution is another home remedy for pet fleas. The soap contains surfactants that cause fleas to drown in the water.

Fill a large aluminum bowl with water daily, add 4 drops of liquid soap to it, and stir until it lathers. Leave this solution in your pet's sleeping and living area to kill stray fleas faster.

Place a spotlight next to or above the bowl of soapy water, where fleas are so interested in the light and heat that they easily move to the source and get trapped in the bowl.

One of the most important things you can do to prevent fleas from spreading is to clean your house and your dog or cat every day. It may be a good idea to know that fleas can easily infect your home within a week.
