Affecting more than 1.2 billion men, baldness is a problem that is often badly experienced and generates many complexes. The Hair loss is, not inevitable, however. It is possible to implement preventive actions to combat hair loss in a man or to mask it if baldness is already advanced.
What is baldness?
Baldness is the consequence and the "final phase" of alopecia, a normal phenomenon that leads to hair loss on all or on certain areas of the scalp. When alopecia is total and it causes a total absence of hair in an area of the skull or all of it, it is called baldness.
At what age does baldness begin with a man?
On average baldness begins between the age of 20 and 35 with a man. It is also possible that it starts much later or earlier. Indeed, alopecia, the premise of baldness, can begin as soon as the end of puberty under the effect of certain hormones.
Reminder: the life cycle of the hair
As a reminder, hair loss in men follows a completely normal process. Indeed, the hair goes through different stages during its life by following a succession of cycles lasting 2 to 4 years.
The life of a hair begins with the anagen phase, a growth phase during which the hair grows. During this period, the hair grows on average by one centimetere per month. Depending on the area of the scalp, the speed of growth will not be the same. The top of the skull has, for example, a higher growth rate than the temples.
Then comes the catagen phase, or involution phase, which lasts between 2 and 3 weeks. The cells stop growing, and the pipilla separates from the capillary bulb.
A third phase then begins, is the telogen phase. During this period of 2 to 4 months, the hair enters a resting phase.
The life of the hair ends with the fall, the exogenous phase, during which the hair falls to make way for new hair that will develop in the same hair follicle.
What causes baldness?
Baldness may be caused by many factors including:
genetics,
stress,
food,
the environment,
Medical treatment.
Genetics is the most common cause of alopecia leading to baldness in men. This is mainly due to testosterone and more specifically to its transformation, by an enzyme, into DHT (dihydrotestosterone). When the secretion of DHT is disturbed and produced too much, the cycle of growth and fall of the hair gets excited and leads to a depletion of the follicle. This disturbance induces the development of more and more hair until its disappearance.
Stress can also be a cause of hair loss in men. It can, in fact, cause hormonal disruption and lead to nutritional deficiencies essential for good hair growth.
Diet, and especially poor diet, can also cause hair loss ending in baldness. An unsuitable diet can lead to a deficiency of vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, or zinc and lead to the progressive refinement of the hair and its fall.
The environment can also be the cause of a decrease in hair quality. Coloring, the misuse of the hairdryer, and any heating device can permanently damage the follicles.
Finally, some medical treatments can promote baldness in men. Anti-acne treatments, thyroid medications, some antidepressants or steroids are known to have hair loss as a side effect.
What are the first signs of baldness?
The first signs of baldness can vary from man to man, but are often:
a change in the birth line of the hair,
a hair that becomes sparse,
the appearance of a bald area,
excessive hair loss when showering or brushing,
a slowing of hair growth.

How to stop baldness that begins?
To stop baldness that begins, you must first determine the causes. Adapt your diet and consume dietary supplements if you have vitamin, iron, or zinc deficiencies. Use natural hair care products designed to prevent hair loss and learn how to better manage your stress.
If you are a pharmacological treatment that may be the cause of hair loss, talk to your doctor. They may be able to offer you an alternative treatment depending on your health problems.
Treatment of hair loss in men
Different treatments can also be proposed to slow hair loss and prevent baldness:
Minoxidil is the most well-known treatment for promoting hair growth. It is used in local applications on the scalp and helps stimulate hair growth after 4 months of treatment in some men.
Finasteride is a newer treatment for hair loss. Available on prescription, it works by inhibiting the enzyme responsible for the transformation of testosterone into DHT.
Growth stimulators: some brands of aesthetic products may also offer serums and other care that promote hair growth. However, these products should be taken with caution, as the test methodologies are sometimes, if not often, subject to debate.
The PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) allows, via an injection of plasma into the scalp to stimulate the hair follicle and hair growth.
How to cure baldness naturally?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to cure baldness naturally. All-natural treatments should be used to prevent hair loss, well before baldness. The means to cure baldness are medical and require surgery, we are talking here about hair implants or medical wigs.
Hair transplants
Hair transplants are increasingly common among men who want to mask baldness. Different techniques exist, but all have the principle of relocating a hair bulb in an area that has suffered hair loss. Different techniques can be distinguished:
the FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) technique or strip hair transplant technique which consists in cutting a strip of the scalp rich follicles to re-implant them in the area to be treated,
the FUSS (Follicular Unit Single Strip) technique, which is very similar to the FUT technique,
The FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) technique works according to the principle of extraction of the capillary bulb which will be re-implanted in the area to be treated. The advantage of this technique is that it leaves the scalp intact and does not generate any scars,
The Direct Hair Implantation is very close to the FUE, except that it is carried out manually by a specialist doctor.
Wigs and hair supplements
Wigs and other hair supplements are solutions to consider to mask baldness if you do not want to go through the hair transplant box. No, clown wig in this case, but medical wigs in monofilament handmade with a cine tulle allowing a natural and completely invisible rendering.
The hair supplement is a more expensive solution, but more qualitative than the wig. This one is, in fact, totally undetectable and is fixed via Mirco-links or via a special glue.
